Crane Club mileage accrual is based on the Ticketed Point Mileage (TPM), published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Classification of Mileage
Crane Club Mileage: Miles members earned by taking flights operated/marketed by Star Alliance members and/or from Crane Club partners, including bonus, complimentary and purchased mileage, are available for award redemption in our Crane Club.
Mileage Upgrade: Mileage members earned by taking flights operated/marketed by Star Alliance members, excluding extra awards, additional or bonus mileage in any form. The Upgrade Mileage is the criterion for upgrading or downgrading the membership but not available for award redemption in the Crane Club.

How to Accrue Your Miles via Taking Our Flights
1. To present your Crane Club Membership number when booking tickets, and request to have your card number input in the PNR.
2. To present your Crane Club membership card when checking in.
Instructions for Mileage Accrual via Taking Our Flights
1. Be sure that your ticket or its copy and the original boarding pass, or e-ticket itinerary or its copies and original boarding pass is well-kept after each trip until the record has been stored in your mileage account.
2. Your mileage (except retroactive mileage claim and the mileage on non-SAL carriers) will be registered in your mileage account within 10 days of after you flight ends and is confirmed.
Your mileage will be registered in your mileage account conditioning that you fly a code share flight operated by non-Star Alliance members, and the airline code in the box "Carrier" of your ticket is "FM".

Retroactive Mileage Claim
1. On SAL flights
· Log in the website of SAL Crane Club and apply for online retroactive mileage claim (available for SAL operated flights only):
· To mail the copy of your ticket and the original boarding pass (bearing membership number) or e-ticket receipt and the original boarding pass (bearing membership number) to Crane Club.
Applicable Conditions
· You have taken a flight operated by SAL (excluding flights of other Star Alliance members or a flight sharing the same code with SAL) 3 months before you are admitted by SAL Crane Club; or
· You found missed registration when checking your record of flights; or
· Retroactive mileage claim may apply when you purchase a ticket for the flight operated by SAL (excluding other flights of Star Alliance or code-share flights) which was cancelled due to any reason of SAL and you were transferred to a flight taken by another airline. In such case, please provide the original SAL flight number and the flight number you were transferred to.
2. On Flights of Other Star Alliance members
· Mail the copy of the ticket and the original boarding pass (bearing membership number) or the e-ticket receipt and the original boarding pass (bearing membership number) to Crane Club.
· Upon confirmation from related Star alliance members, SAL will accept your retroactive mileage claim.
3. To contact SAL non-airline partners for retroactive mileage claim when you find unrecorded mileage.
4. The term for retroactive mileage claim is one year (as of date of taking flight or consumption at the partner) and all retroactive mileage will be registered upon confirmation.
5. Crane Club will process the mails for retroactive mileage claim within one month. Crane Club will return any incomplete or blurred application documents by mail. For avoidance of document loss, members are supposed to retain copies of all documents. SAL shall not be responsible for any loss that may occur.
6. SAL has the right to refuse any retroactive mileage claim after stipulated time or in lack of sufficient documents.

Miles Purchase
Members may purchase SAL miles through e-pay at the SAL Crane Club website for the purpose of redeeming awards.
- Miles purchase service is only for Crane Club full members who pay on our website. Temporary members do not apply.
- Members may purchase miles for themselves or other members in the Club.
- Any tax or fees having occurred amid miles purchase shall be borne by member.
- The miles bought must be multiples of 100 and a min. of 500km. The max. miles a member may buy within a calendar year shall not exceed 10,000km.

- The use of purchased mileage shall in compliance with regulations set forth by the Crane Club.
- The purchased miles are non-refundable.
- To state in the application provided members require receipts, so that our staff can send to you by mail.

Mileage Validity
The miles in SAL members’ account is valid for 3 calendar years. For example, the mileage earned in 2007 shall be valid as of December 31, 2010. Provided the mileage in 2007 has not been used out prior to the date, the remaining which is earned in 2007 shall be invalidated on January 1, 2011.
Please remember to check your mileage account in due course and redeem the awards for avoidance of undue loss.
How to Obtain Mileage Updates
You may:
· Visit our SAL Crane Club website: http://www.shanghai-air.com, and login the Crane Club to check your mileage; or
· You may check the miles by the Mileage Alert we mail to each member in the odd months of Jan., Mar., May, Jul., Sep. and Nov. You may receive the electronic Mileage Alert via email instead of paper Notice after you choose the e-service on our website; or
Notes: You will receive the Mileage Alert only when your mileage changes (increased or decreased) 2 months before our Mileage Alert. Please keep the Mileage Alert for one year for the purpose of verification.
